Undersecretary of Municipalities Affairs, and Urban Planning for Agriculture and Maritime, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Isa Al Khalifa announced the organization of "Palm Dates Festival," on Thursday evening, corresponding to the first of August from 08:30 to 11:30 in the lectures hall at Agriculture Affairs in Al Budaiya. Shaikh Khalifa highlighted that the festival includes the display of the most important types of date grown in Kingdom of Bahrain, and there will be types to be displayed for the first time, aiming at informing citizens about them. He also said that they will also display international types of dates, and citizens will be able to know about the best types and request them in future according to their desires. Shaikh Khalifa pointed out that the festival aims at supporting the Bahraini product, and raising the awareness on the products of the Kingdom particularly the dates, in addition to creating a kind of bridges and a link between the producer and the trader on one side, and between the farmer, and the whole sale traders on the other side to provide the local market with dates, in the light of the fierce competition witnessed by the local product. The citizens and residents will also be informed on most of the products of the palm tree. Shaikh Khalifa added that the idea of the project emanated from the directives of the Wife of HM the King, the Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Women, Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, who called on encouraging farmers and the Bahraini product, and in line of the efforts aiming at regaining the prestige of palm trees in the Kingdom. Shaikh Khalifa asserted the importance of the palm tree, which was the pride of the ancestors down to the children and to the grandchildren, considering the palm tree of being the house, the food and the basis of all sides of the life of the elders, and it still lives in the hearts of every Bahraini.
