The Fourth edition of the School Mini Olympics is all set to begin on Thursday with 3-on-3 basketball tournament to kick off the 14-sport festivities.
The Mini Olympics is organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, with more than 2,000 students from government and private schools to compete in a variety of sports, including football, basketball, volleyball and handball.
The remaining sports are table tennis, athletics cricket, hockey, swimming, water sports, gymnastics, taekwondo, jiu jitsu and karting.
Tomorrow’s action, which tips off at 9am, will see boys and girls competitions, with the former to be staged at the Bahrain Basketball Association gym in Um Al Hassam, while the Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federations premises will host the girls matches.
Mini Olympics action continues on Friday with the cricket matches that will take place from 9am onwards at the cricket grounds near Isa Sports City Stadium in Riffa. The Mini Olympics will run until March 30.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, meanwhile, chaired the organisnig committee meeting to look into the final arrangements ahead of this year’s event.
