Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry
Cairo - Egypt Today

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held on Tuesday talks with Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar who applauded Egypt's influential status in the Middle East.

Shoukry expressed Egypt's appreciation of bilateral relations with Slovenia, Spokesman for Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Shoukry tackled prospects of capitalizing on the momentum created following the first ever visit by a Slovenian president to Egypt in December 2016, the spokesman said.

Egypt's foreign minister heaped praise on Slovenia's support for Egypt in the European Union, especially during the latest talks on water resources management.

He, meanwhile, reviewed the various aspects of the social, economic and political reform programs adopted by the Egyptian government.

Shoukry highlighted Egypt's massive investment opportunities available for the Slovenian side in the mega national projects, like the project to develop the Suez Canal Axis, with the aim of boosting the central European country's 77-million-dollar investments in Egypt.

Premier Cerar, for his part, expressed his country's appreciation of Egypt and its status in the Middle East.

He expressed willingness to give impetus for relations with Egypt in the coming period through boosting cooperation in all domains.

The Slovenian premier hailed Egypt's reforms implemented at the economic, social and political levels and expressed interest in being briefed on Egypt's anti-terror and anti-illegal immigration efforts.

Egypt's assessment of the situation in Libya, Syria and Iraq along with efforts meant to resolve crises there were highlighted by Shoukry during Tuesday’s meeting, the spokesman noted.
