Tokyo stocks ended higher Monday as the market generally welcomed the outcome of Sunday\'s upper house election in which the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its coalition partner secured majority seats. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed up 68.13 points, or 0. 47 percent, from Friday at 14,658.04. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 4.55 points, or 0.38 percent, at 1,216. 53. Gainers were led by sea transport, miscellaneous products and real estate developers while decliners included paper, machinery and airlines. The turnover was about 2,043.5 billion yen (about 20.37 billion U.S. dollars).
