Gold and silver prices made modest gains Wednesday in New York despite a stronger dollar. The dollar was mixed in Asia, but made broad gains in Europe. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average set a new all-time closing high, making some investors nervous about how long the winning run will last. Gold added $8.90 to $1,583.70 per troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The price for silver closed up 35 cents at $29.02 an ounce. Against the dollar the euro was lower at $1.2978 from Tuesday\'s $1.3051. Against the yen, the dollar was higher at 93.98 yen from 93.29 yen. The British pound fell to $1.5003 from $1.5127. The dollar rose to 1.0319 Canadian dollars from 1.027 Canadian. The dollar held steady at 7.7557 Hong Kong dollars.
