Japan\'s Nikkei opened higher Monday after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe\'s ruling Liberal Democratic Partyand its coalition partner won a majority in Sunday\'s upper house election.
At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 53.62 points, or 0.37 percent, from Friday at 14,643.53.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.59 points, or 0.21 percent, at 1,214. 57.
