Nikkei opened 2.55 percent higher Friday morning in Tokyo, hitting its highest level in nearly five years. At 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 362.46 points from Thursday at 14,553.94, after climbing to as high as 14,559.63, the highest intraday level since June 6, 2008. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 25.59 points, or 2.17 percent, at 1, 207.42.
