Nikkei ended 1.66 percent higher Friday. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed up 215.55 points from Thursday at 13,230.13. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.59 points, or 0.70 percent, at 1,099.40. Gainers included retail, paper and pharmaceutical companies, while decliners included airlines, mining and sea transport issues. The turnover was about 2,798.7 billion yen (about 28.63 billion U.S. dollars).
