Nikkei closed 0.53 percent higher Monday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 65.43 points from Friday at 12,349.05, scoring the longest winning streak since July 2009.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished up 19.48 points, or 1.91 percent, at 1,039.98.
Gainers were led by the securities, banking and insurance sectors. Foods and tire makers were the sole decliners.
The turnover was about 2,846.4 billion yen (about 29.61 billion U.S. dollars).
