A moderate 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit southern Philippine island of Mindanao on Monday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The quake struck on Monday around 11 kilometers northwest of San Isidro, Davao Oriental, at a depth of 32 kilometers, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. There was a low likelihood of casualties and damage. The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a belt around the Pacific Ocean dotted by active volcanoes and tectonic trenches.
