The Washington Capitals signed 17-year-old Swede Filip Forsberg to a three-year, entry-level contract, General Manager George McPhee announced Friday.
The 6-foot-2 teenage forward was chosen in the first round of the NHL Draft last month.
Forsberg was the youngest player on Team Sweden at the 2012 World Junior Championships. The Swedes won the gold medal in that event.
The Caps said Forsberg is participating in their development camp and will likely be assigned to the Leksand team in Sweden next season.
