Typhoon Halong weakened into an extratropical depression Monday in the Sea of Japan after claiming the lives of ten people in Japan and leaving two others unaccounted for.
The Japan Meteorological Agency called for vigilance as the season’s 11th typhoon, continuing to head north after the downgrading, was still bringing heavy rain and strong wind to Hokkaido, northern Japan, according to (Kyodo) news agency.
Torrential rain was recorded Monday morning in Hokkaido’s Rishiri Island and the town of Shiriuchi, with hourly precipitation reaching 49.5 millimeters and 43.0 mm, respectively.
