Suicide bombing

At least three army soldiers were wounded Monday after an explosion went off in Herat city, the provincial capital of western Afghan province of Herat, said an official.
The blast occurred at Pul-e-Karwan locality near the city's airport at around midday when a suicide bomber detonated his suicide jacket near an army vehicle. The blast wounded three army soldiers, an army source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
"Several gunshots followed the blast. It is said that two other suicide bombers fled the scene after the army personnel opened gun fire against them," a witness said.
No group claimed responsibility. The authorities blame Taliban militants for such attacks.
The injured were transferred to a nearby hospital. Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.
The blast caused a plume of grey smoke to rise above the scene.
