Peruvian police said a gunman shot and killed a mayoral candidate in the world's No. 1 coca-growing region, AP reported.
Lider Villazana was the second mayoral candidate in Peru's Oct. 5 local and regional elections to be gunned down in as many months.
Both men were running in cocaine-producing regions. No arrests have been made.
The 49-year-old Villazana was making a third run for the mayor's office in San Martin de Pangoa in the Apurimac and Ene river valley.
