A "wide" police operation is taking place in western Kosovo following an armed attack Friday that killed two people and injured seven others. Police are trying to identify and arrest the suspects, who are thought to have conducted the attack from a Jeep Grand Cherokee found burning outside the city of Peja/Pec, some 80 km west of Kosovo's capital, Pristina. "We are engaged in a wide operation throughout the region, and so far we have managed to find the car that we believe was used for the assault," said Xhevat Ibraj, spokesperson of regional police command in Peja/Pec. Valdet Kelmendi, 28, is thought to have been the target of the attack, which took place in downtown Peja/Pec, while the other victim has not yet been identified. The motives for the assault are unknown. The injured have been sent to a hospital and are in a stable situation, said Skender Dreshaj, director of the hospital. The Peja/Pec region is the most volatile part of Kosovo, where armed incidents often occur.
