India has 414 convicts on the death row, the Indian National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) revealed on Thursday.
Elaborating, the bureau said that the largest number of death convicts were present in the jails of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
\"63 death convicts are in southern state of Karnataka, 51 in eastern state of Maharashtra, 42 in eastern state of Bihar, 27 in capital Delhi, 19 in eastern state of Gujarat, 16 in northern state Punjab, 14 in southern Kerala, 12 in southern in Tamil Nadu, and 10 each in Assam, Jammu Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh,\" the bureau revealed.
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has reported that 54.1 per cent of all prisoners in the country\'s jails are undergoing a life term.
Many of the undergoing life term have been convicted for murder which accounted for 59 per cent.
