Fighting broke out on Thursday between thousands of protesters and riot police on Kiev's Independence Square only hours after opposition leaders and President Viktor Yanukovych declared a truce, dpa reported. A dpa reporter saw protesters throwing firebombs and molotov cocktails at police, who responded with teargas. The square was filled with black smoke from burning tyres. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said that 20 policemen were hurt in fighting and accused the protesters of firing live ammunition at officers. Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Poland arrived in the Ukrainian capital for urgent political talks. They are then expected to head to Brussels, where an extraordinary foreign ministers meeting was due to be held later Thursday.
