Attack in Mali

France said on Saturday that at least one French national died in a shooting attack overnight against a restaurant in the Malian capital, Bamako, a shooting that killed a total of five people.
"The President of the Republic condemns in the strongest way the cowardly attack carried out last night against a restaurant in Bamako...in the foreign resident area," a statement from the Elysee Palace said Saturday.
A number of other people were reported wounded in the attack, but no French nationals were said to be among them.
"France stands at the side of the Malians," President Francois Holland's office said, adding that the French president would contact his Malian counterpart Ibrahim Boubaker Keita during the day.
