At least eight people have died and two others went missing as a result of floods in southern Thailand, officials announced today.
In a statement, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said that heavy rains had affected more than 1,415 villages in the four southern provinces.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited the region Friday before his appearance at the 10th anniversary ceremony of the Asian tsunami.
He declared the four provinces as disaster zones and directed authorities to provide aid accordingly.
