A prison mutiny in which five inmates were killed ended Tuesday in Cascavel, in the southern Brazilian state of Parana.
A deal was brokered for the release of two guards who were being held hostage by mutiny leaders, the state governor's office said, while a total of 851 inmates were to be transferred to other prisons, dpa reported.
A further 25 inmates were injured in the 44-hour mutiny to demand better conditions and eased regulations, including more visitor privileges, the authorities said.
Two inmates were decapitated and two others died when they were thrown off a roof. No information about the death of the fifth inmate has been released.
