About 26 Taliban militants have been killed in fresh military operations in three provinces within the past 24 hours, said the country's Interior Ministry on Tuesday morning.
"Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) conducted operations to clean some areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan. The operations were conducted in Kandahar, Paktia and Kunar provinces over the past 24 hours. As a result, 26 armed Taliban members were killed, seven wounded and six others were arrested by the ANSF," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.
The security forces also recovered and defused nine roadside bombs planted by the militants over the same period, according to the statement.
The statement did not disclose if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments.
The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Security forces have pressed on to clear the militants in restive provinces. The Taliban responds by bombing and armed attacks.
On Monday, 22 security personnel and 23 militants were killed following a clash in northern Sari Pul province.
