Eight persons were killed and 14 others injured when a van collided head-on with a truck in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Monday, said police.
The incident took place at Tarapur-Vataman Highway of the state, when the driver of the pick-up van carrying 21 laborers tried to overtake a heavy vehicle and a truck coming from the opposite direction collided with it, police said.
Road accident takes place frequently in India due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and overpacking. An estimated 100,000 are killed on the road each year in the country.
