Six people have died and three are unaccounted for as of 1 p.m. Sunday after a boat sank in the Zijiang River in central China's Hunan Province on Saturday afternoon, local authorities said.
The accident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday when a private boat with 18 people on board sank on the Jiugongqiao section of Zijiang River. Nine people have been rescued.
A man from Tanghong Village in Jiugongqiao in Shaoyang County, had borrowed the boat to take his family to an island on the other side of the river. The boat sank on the return journey.
Among the nine rescued, seven have been discharged from hospital and two are in a stable condition.
