Five people were killed and three were missing in landslides triggered by heavy rains in the southern Philippines, police said Sunday, according to dpa.
The victims included a 7-year-old girl killed in a mining village in Monkayo town in Compostella Valley province, 940 kilometres south of Manila.
Three people were also missing and seven hurt when a portion of Mount Diwata crashed into houses in the village early Sunday, said Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan, the provincial police chief.
In nearby Davao Oriental province, four people were killed in a
separate landslide in Bangol village Saturday night, according to
Suerintendent Jose Carumba, the provincial police chief.
More than 10,000 people were forced to flee their homes in five
provinces as rains brought floodwaters as high as 1.5 metres in some
areas, police said.
