5 people were killed as a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico and Guatemala border region of San Marcos, .
The tremor caused the death of two people in Guatemala. It also brought down power lines and triggered landslides blocking roads.
The quake was centred 22 km southwest of the Mexican city of Tapachula in Chiapas. The US Geological Survey said it occurred at a depth of about 60 km.
