Heavy rains hit normal life across north India

Nearly 22 people have been killed due to heavy rainfall in the northern Indian state of Punjab since Thursday, a senior police official said Saturday.
"Most of the deaths happened due to house and roof collapses, triggered by heavy rainfall across the state. Several others sustained injuries in the incidents and have been admitted to local hospitals," the official said, on condition of anonymity.
People have been asked to stay indoors in many places where rivers are flowing above the danger mark, he added.
Other states in northern India, including the Indian capital, are also receiving rainfall unexpected in this time of the year.
