Fifteen people were killed Wednesday after a jeep fell into a gorge in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. The incident took place at Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district when the jeep rolled down and fell over some workers who were working on a road below. The vehicle itself fell into a 300-meter gorge, killing all 10 passengers aboard. The toll may go up, said police. The driver of the jeep seemed to have lost control over the vehicle and was seriously injured and admitted to a local hospital. Uttarakhand is located at the foot of the Himalayan mountains in northwest India and is known for its winding mountain roads across the state. Road accidents take place frequently in India, and authorities estimate at least 100,000 are killed each year in various kinds of accidents on the road.
