Cairo - MENA
Egyptian politician Hamdeen Sabahi has praised the Democratic Front Party (DFP) and the Liberal Egyptian Party (LEP) merger. In statements to MENA, Sabahi said the political scene needs more mergers of political parties to achieve a stronger presence ahead of the coming elections. On the upcoming elections, Sabahi said he preferred the presidential election ahead of the parliamentary one, adding that he believes that this would be better for the country. As for the amended constitution, the former presidential candidate said it was one of the best written constitutions of Egypt when it comes to freedoms. He urged widespread participation in the referendum on the draft constitution, calling on voters to say "yes" to it. Sabahi said he would back Defence Minister Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi if he decided to run for president. He also urged the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) to take part in the referendum and to recognize the 30 June Revolution as the will of the people should always be respected. He called on the MB to join the roadmap.
