Jordan took over the U.N. Security Council presidency on Wednesday. The UN daily report said the Security Council will not hold any meeting today but Jordan ’s permanent mission to the UN will present a briefing next Friday on the Council’s program of work that will be attended only by UN member countries and not the Security Council’s permanent members. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh will attend on January 20 an open session for the Security Council that will discuss the situation in the Middle East as well as the latest developments in the region, mainly the Palestinian issue and the crisis in Syria. Jordan will also chair a closed meeting for the Security Council during which the special coordinator of the OPCW-UN Joint Mission on eliminating Syria ’s chemical weapons program will present a briefing on the third report on eliminating Syria ’s chemical weapons. Jordan will also chair a closed session meeting on January 22 that will discuss the situation in Yemen and will also head all discussions and consultations related to conflicts in Africa .
