Interim President Adly Mansour received a delegation of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad at the presidential HQ on Sunday. The meeting comes within context of the post June 30 interest where attention is paid to all segments of the Egyptian society and encouragement given to political participation, said presidential spokesman Ehab Badawy. The president was keen to listen to the viewpoints of Egyptian expatriates regarding the selection of expatriates in the coming parliament and ways how they can contribute to building a modern Egypt, Badawy said. The delegation said it hopes that Article 88 of the constitution on providing care to expatriates and regulating their participation in elections and referendums gets activated. The delegation members also called for being represented in the parliament either by election or appointment. They also suggested establishing a commission for Egyptian expatriates, to which the president promised to consider. The president also stressed that Egyptians abroad should wire their earnings to Egypt regularly due to the importance of those remittances to the country, the spokesman said.
