The Egyptian Foreign Ministry is continuing efforts to release 45 Egyptians detained in a Yemeni prison, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
The detained Egyptians were residing in Hodeida province in Yemen for several years, added the spokesman in statements on Monday.
Egypt's Ambassador to Yemen Youssef el Sharkawi held intensive contacts upon directives from the Foreign Ministry in order to work on the release of the detained Egyptians soon, according to the spokesman.
The Egyptian ambassador held contacts with the Yemeni prime minister, foreign minister and the parliament speaker along with the UN envoy to Yemen, who pledged to intensify contacts with all the Yemeni parties to release the detainees, said the spokesman.
The spokesman further said that he held contacts with independent Yemeni figures in order to release the Egyptian detainees
