There have been a series of huge explosions in Jonquieres in southern France late Friday, after a fire at a gas cylinder depot.

Footage of the blasts has been posted on social media, showing clouds of smoking billowing into the sky as a number of loud banging sounds are heard.

According to French news site Le Parisien the explosions were caused by a fire at a gas cylinder depot.

It's not yet known if anyone has been injured but emergency services are currently on the scene.
