Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas

Scores of Palestinian national and popular powers staged a protest on Thursday that soon turned to a march towards the presidential headquarters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in protest against the US delegation's visit to the Palestinian Authority.

The protesters called on Abbas not to cave in to pressure of the US delegation that just arrived from Tel Aviv after talks with Israeli officials.

The US delegation includes Jared Kushner, senior adviser to US President Donald Trump, Jason Greenblatt, the chief negotiator, and Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell.

Speaking to MENA, representative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Omar Shahada said the protest reflects the Palestinians' full condemnation of the US stance that backs Israeli crimes and seeks to drag the Palestinian leadership to a solution based on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's suggestions.

We are trying to send a message that Israeli crimes cannot be faced except by forming a national unity council to settle the crisis between Gaza Strip and the West Bank-based governments and restore the status of the PLO as a unified body representing all Palestinians, he added.

The US delegation will meet later in the day with Abbas and other senior Palestinian officials.
