Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held important talks with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel in Berlin, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement Sunday.

The meeting dealt with bilateral relations and ways to boost them in the various fields in light of distinguished historic relations.

The two foreign ministers affirmed that successive meetings between the two countries' leaders reflected a common desire to give a strong impetus to cooperation between Egypt and Germany, which is reflected in the huge investments in various fields, including energy and transport, as well as coordination in different international fora, the spokesman added.

Shoukry and Sigmar witnessed the signing of a document on axes of joint cooperation in the field of migration, as it was signed by Egyptian Ambassador in Berlin Badr Abdel Aati and German assistant foreign minister for middle east affairs Philipp Ackermann.

The document affirms the importance of bilateral cooperation to find solutions serving the interests of both sides within the framework of partnership and respect for the rights of refugees and migrants.

The talks dealt with various aspects of cooperation between the two countries, in addition to regional issues of common concern, the spokesman said.

Nominating Egypt's Moushira Khattab as Director-General of UNESCO, in light of Germany's membership in UNESCO's Executive Board, as well as the developments in the crisis with Qatar were also tackled, he added.
