Chairman of the Egyptian-German Friendship Society Reda Sheta

The Egyptian-German Friendship Society has highlighted the important visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Egypt, set for Thursday, at an invitation from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

In statements to MENA, Chairman of the Egyptian-German Friendship Society Reda Sheta asserted that the visit would reflect the historic relations binding the peoples of the two countries in the cultural, political and economic fields.

The expected talks between Sisi and Merkel would enhance understanding between the two countries vis-a-vis regional and international issues topped by the situation in the Middle East region particularly the conflicts in Libya, Syria and Iraq, Sheta added.

The two sides would hold talks on the necessity of intensifying anti-terrorism efforts to contain its threats on other countries especially the European Union countries. Other issues to be raised in the talks would be the illegal immigration, he explained.

The visit would also help in expanding the scope of cooperation between the two countries in the economic, technological, trade and investment, Sheta noted, adding that German foundations are keen on increasing investments to Egypt especially in the Suez Canal region.

Merkel will be accompanied by a high-level delegation grouping major German companies operating in the field of technology, energy and industry, Sheta added.
