Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on the British government to cancel its centennial celebrations of the Balfour Declaration and recognize the Palestinian state.

The call was made by Mohammad Ashtia, a member of Fatah Central Committee, who spoke on behalf of Abbas at the international conference that was held Thursday by Fatah International Relations Commission under the title of “100 years of the Ominous Balfour Declaration”.

During the conference, attended by some Arab and international delegations and ministers of the Palestinian government, Ashtia said it is a shame that the British government boasts of the creation of Israel and marks the centennial anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.

The Palestinian government will seek to defend the self-determination right and end the Israeli occupation by establishing an independent Palestinian state with al Quds as its capital, Ashtia vowed.

Israel does not acknowledge the 1967 borders with (Al Quds) East Jerusalem, as it endeavors to destroy any attempts to a two-state solution and violates agreements signed with the Palestinian government, in addition to its expansion into building more settlements on Palestinian soil, Ashtia asserted.

Furthermore, he called on the Israeli government to show the international community that it is keen to achieve peace, through ceasing the establishment of settlements and suspending its bids to judaize Al Quds and other Palestinian territories
