A young Palestinian, Abdul Rahman Abu Jamea, has received an e-mail response from a White House official, three days after messaging President Barack Obama expressing hope that his upcoming Middle East tour would end the plight of detainees in Israeli jails. The aide told Abdul Rahman the President would tackle the crisis “in earnest.” The young man announced he would write to Jerusalem’s US Consulate to lodge an official request to meet Obama, telling him about “the violations which young Palestinians are subjected to at the hands of the Israeli occupation.”
