Cairo - Arab Today
The United Nations Security Council in New York unanimously approved a draft resolution on fighting terrorism in Libya thanks to efforts by Egypt, Libya and Jordan.
The draft resolution, therefore, gives an international legitimate cover to the strong measures Egypt has taken against Daesh group in Libya after beheading of its citizens there.
It is the first time that the UNSC adopts an independent resolution on combating terrorism in Libya as a threat to international peace and security, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said.
It is also the first to designate Daesh group as a terrorist entity operating within the Libyan territories, the spokesman said.
Egypt had repeatedly warned against the threat of Daesh in Libya at a time when the international community focused on its acts in Iraq only, he said, adding that the draft resolution corrects this stance.
