UN Security Council

The UN Security Council held a closed-door session to discuss the latest developments in Yemen.
During the session, the UN special envoy for Yemen said it faces daunting security, economic and political challenges and that a recent peace agreement among its major parties is the only way to move the impoverished country forward.
Jamal Benomar said the peace deal and formation of a new government that followed were signs of slow progress.
He described Yemen’s security situation as extremely fragile, warning that the humanitarian situation remains bleak.
