The Tunisian Ministry of Interior had denied reports that Algerian security forces have arrested Kamel Gadhgadhi, the man suspected of assassinating Tunisian left-wing leader, Chokri Belaid. The Ministry dismissed the reports as “baseless,” meanwhile criticising media organisations for disseminating “critical and sensitive news.” An earlier report had suggested Algerian security forces had already handed over Gadghadhi to Tunisian authorities. Incoming Interior Minister Lotfi Ben Jeddou said solving the Belaid assassination would be a top priority for Prime Minister Ali Larayedh’s new government. Security forces are continuing a large-scale combing operation to find suspects allegedly scattered across the Sakiet Sidi Youssef mountain range in Tunisia’s northern Kef province, close to the Algerian border.
