President of Tunisia’s Constituent Assembly Mustapha Ben Jaafar has suggested fielding a vote of no confidence in President Moncef Marzouki, following a 77-deputy approval vote in April. The backlash is believed to be a response to Marzouki’s comments during an April visit to Qatar, which the opposition considered “an explicit call to erect gallows for the opponents of the coalition,” an Ennahda representative said. MPs have also criticised perceived attempts by the president to stall the vote of no confidence, after it was postponed repeatedly.
