Baghdad - Jaafar Al Nasrawi
Security leaders in Babil governate, central Iraq, disclosed that the main streets leading to the central prison of Al-Hilla have been closed off, as security forces intensify measures around the area on Wednesday. The measures come as Iraqi authorities received intelligence information stating that armed groups - reportedly affiliated to al-Qaeda- may attempt to storm the prison.
Cars and buses have been prevented form entering the main roads.
Al-Hilla is one of the main prisons in Iraq holding around 200 inmates from different Iraqi regions. A number of prisoners sentenced to death are also held here.
