A law maker from Syria\'s ruling Baath Party has
defected to Turkey, in protest against President Bashar al-Assad\'s
crackdown on the opposition, dpa quoted regional media as reporting.
Ikhlas Badawi, who was based in Aleppo, is the first parliamentary
defector since the uprising against al-Assad\'s government began in
March 2011.
\"I have crossed into Turkey with the aim of defecting from this
evil regime,\" Badawi told the Arabic language service of Sky News
television based in Abu Dhabi.
\"I have defected to protest repression and bestial torture being exercised against the people in Syria,\"she added .
