President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted the importance of developing the railways network nationwide in the upcoming period, presidential spokesman Alaa Yousef said on Saturday .
During a meeting with Transportation Minister Hisham Arafat, the president also directed to develop the railways’ infrastructure and railway signalling system in order to reduce the dependence on human beings to limit train accidents.
Sisi also ordered to form a technical committee to assess the railways’ maintenance process.
The minister reviewed the results of initial investigations into an Alexandria train collision that left dozens of people dead and others injured.
The minister said that the accident came as a result of depending on humans in operating the trains. He also said that a number of officials were suspended until the probe is over.
The president also directed to conclude the probe as soon as possible and to bring those who are responsible to justice.
