President Abdel Fattah El Sisi

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived in Gabon, his third stop of an African tour, Wednesday.

During a meeting with his Gabonese counterpart Ali Bongo Ondimba, Sisi has called for intensifying efforts to enhance cooperation with Gabon and increase trade between the two countries.

Sisi said an agreement was reached to re-launch the joint Egyptian-Gabonese committee, which has been suspended since 2008.

He praised efforts exerted by Ondimba to restore peace and security in central Africa.

Ondimba, who described Sisi’s visit as historic, said his country is keen on building stronger relations with Egypt at all levels, especially economic cooperation.

The Gabonese president hailed Sisi’s openness towards Africa, adding that Egypt is a major economic player of a good reputation.

Sisi arrived in Chad on Thursday on the last leg of his four-day African tour.

At a joint press conference with his Chadian counterpart Idriss Deby, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to offer all needed assistance to landlocked Chad.

President Sisi praised Deby’s pro-African efforts as part of the Community of Sahel-Sahara States, Africa’s second largest forum after the African Union, despite the serious challenges facing the north-central African country as well as its peacekeeping and terrorism-combat sacrifices in the Sahel region.

Later in the day, Sisi left Chad and returned home, wrapping up the last leg of his four-day African tour.
