Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi. According to Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), their meeting discussed the Arab League emergency meeting of the Arab foreign ministers scheduled to be held tomorrow (Wednesday) on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
Abbas arrived today in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on a three-day official visit where he is to meet Egyptian counterpart, Adly Mansour, as well as other high-profile officials.
Abbas Arrives in Egypt for Emergency Arab FM Meeting
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived here Tuesday for a visit to Egypt during which he participate in the urgent meeting for Arab foreign ministers to review the latest developments of the stalling peace process with Israel.
The meeting, to be held upon Palestinian request, is set to discuss the necessary steps in light of Israel's lack of commitment to the negotiations and its refusal to release a fourth batch of Palestinian detainees. It will also touch on recent Israeli threats against the Palestinian government, a Palestinian foreign ministry statement said today. Abbas will stress the need to strengthen the Palestinian position financially through activating the Arab financial safety net.
