Palestinian security forces killed a civilian in Askar refugee camp in Nablus late on Tuesday, officials and witnesses said. Palestinian officials said Amjad Falah Odeh, 30, died in an exchange of fire between security forces and a man they were trying to arrest. But eyewitnesses said a police officer shot Odeh as he stood in the street, after residents attacked them with stones while they tried to raid a house in the camp. Odeh was taken to Rafidia hospital was he was pronounced dead. There were reports of other injuries. Security sources expressed their regret for the incident, but said the officers were fired upon when they entered the camp to arrest Odeh on suspicion of having illegal arms. Officers then fired warning shots, the sources said. Palestinian security spokesman Adnan al-Damery said that an investigation was underway into Odeh’s death.
