Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz visited the Mauritania-Mali border on Friday, in a visit intensely monitored by security forces. The president’s visit followed the tightening of security measures in the area of Amraj near the al-Qaeda camps in northern Mali. Abdel Aziz met with representatives of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad and civil society organizations in the Mauritanian town of Bassiknou. The Mauritanian president arrived at the border region in a military aircraft accompanied by a number of assistants.
