Tunis - Azhar Jarboui
Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki celebrated the Tunisian General Labour Union\'s decision to call off its general strike scheduled for December 13.
He described the move as \"positive and wise\" hailing it as an important step towards much-needed cooperation as Tunisia tries to resolve economic, social and security challenges.
The union deal was signed by interior, social affairs and health ministers on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile President Marzouki met with United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations and former president of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, to discuss Tunisia\'s route to democracy.
Sampaio said that he believes Tunisia could set an example of successful democratic transition in the region, provided it resolves current economic and social difficulties.
