The so-called Libya Dawn militants have suffered heavy losses in the clashes in the town of Ajaylat, some 80 kilometers west of Tripoli, a spokesman for the chief of staff has said.
Ahmed Al Mesmari added that the Libyan Army used helicopters for the first time to support the troops on the ground.
He said that the Libya Dawn militants clashed violently with oil installations guards stationed in the oil crescent region in Sirte city.
